CLAYTON-- A Memorial Day ceremony honoring those veterans who have passed away was held in front of the Rabun County Courthouse on Monday.  “It’s always an honor to be here,” said Doug Wayne, S.V. Cdr. Chapter 15, master of ceremonies. “It’s a great day to be an American.

County okays storage units at Lake Burton

CLAYTON-- The courtroom at the Rabun County Courthouse was packed for Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting as commissioners passed a motion to rezone land located at 8118 Bridge Creek Rd. from Agricultural to Commercial Business for the development of storage units.

Wooden boats to be in parade on Sunday

LAKE BURTON—Beauty, history and nostalgia converge on Lake Burton Sunday as the second annual Lake Burton Wooden Boat Parade sets sail from Timpson Cove. “It’s for people to enjoy,” said organizer Andrew Harris.

CLAYTON-- The Clayton Downtown Development Authority discussed planning for future projects in downtown Clayton with guest speaker Adam Hazell, planning director for the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission (GMRC), at their meeting Tuesday.

Rabun County Schools honor retirees with reception

TIGER-- Rabun County Schools honored 2020-2021 retired employees with a reception held at Rabun County High School last Thursday. It was sponsored by Charles Black Construction.

School system receives funds for COVID recovery

TIGER-- Rabun County Schools recently received its third round of funding from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act, Amy Pruitt, Rabun County Schools federal programs director, explained at last Thursday’s Board of Education meeting.  Rabun County Schools has been allocated $4.

Former Clayton mayor remembered

Rabun County resident Larry “Doc” Gillespie, who passed away in 2020, was recently honored with a plaque and memorial placed in front of his home on the 14th hole at the Kingwood Country Club golf course.

Firefighters respond to multiple blazes

Rabun County Fire Services responded to a report of a structure fire at 137 Marsen Knob Drive in the Vista Ridge Apartment Complex at 2:29 p.m. on Sunday. Stations 1, 5, and 12 responded on the initial alarm.

Water service in Clayton to be affected by construction Sunday

The city of Clayton will be having planned maintenance for Main St. on Sunday, May 23 at 10:30 p.m.  City crews will be making necessary repairs to the infrastructure, including the replacement of a valve.  The areas of North Main St., South Main St., East Savannah St., West Savannah St.
