Rabun County GOP elects slate of new officers

The Rabun GOP elected a new slate of officers at the county convention held at The Dillard House Conference Center last Saturday.  Ed Fickey was elected chair, Tim Wall elected 1st vice chair, Ken Fortney elected 2nd vice chair and Linda Burns elected treasurer.

Scouts spruce up fishing pier benches

If you have been to the pond at the Rec Center lately, you may have noticed a change in the benches by the fishing pier. This is the start of Cub Scouts Pack 6’s project to redo the benches on the walking trail around the pond.

Couple celebrates 75 years of love

Jim and Jean Rittenhouse met when they were just teenagers and have been inseparable ever since. The couple married on April 16, 1946. They celebrate 75 years of marriage on Friday. “We’ve been together most of our lives,” Jean said. “We just like to be together.

Low-income dental clinic is set to open in Rabun

CLAYTON-- Community Dental, a dental clinic for low-income adults, is set to open April 14.  Through the Clayton Rotary Foundation, the clinic will provide acute dental care for low-income adults who live or work in Rabun County, according to Rotarian Tim Ranney.

Business increases as COVID cases drop

One year after the first reported case of COVID-19 in Rabun County, many local businesses that were hit hard by the disease are seeing big increases in customers and sales.

FAITH has served 30 Rabun County victims of child abuse in past year

April is sexual assault and child abuse prevention month and Fight Abuse in the Home (FAITH) is bringining community awareness with pinwheels outside the Rabun County Courthouse.

Trail community status sought for Clayton

CLAYTON-- Rabun County’s landscape offers many activities for the avid outdoorsman, whether it’s visiting one of the state parks or hiking the Appalachian Trail.  Dicks Creek Gap on the Appalachian Trail travels just along the Towns County and Rabun County border.

RCHS names top scholars

TIGER-- Rabun County High School announced its top honors for the Class of 2021. Lauren Barnes is Valedictorian, Alexis Martin is Salutatorian and Chandler Hensley is Historian.

Rabun library adds pods for video conferencing

CLAYTON-- The Rabun County Public Library installed new study pods for patrons last week.
