Annual heritage festival coming Saturday after Ian postponement

Heritage comes alive in Rabun County this weekend at the Foxfire Mountaineer Festival Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. after the annual event was rescheduled from Oct. 1 for safety reasons surrounding Hurricane Ian.

City of Sky Valley council adopts rollback millage rate, budget

SKY VALLEY– Sky Valley City Council members voted to adopt the 2022 millage rate of 12.9914 at a special called city council meeting Sept. 27. This is a rollback from the 2021 millage rate of 15.6080.

Two injured in Hwy. 15 crash at Clayton intersection

CLAYTON– Minor injuries were reported in a two-vehicle crash on Georgia Highway 15 at the intersection of Chechero Street in Clayton Sept. 27 at approximately 3:28 p.m. Macy Dakota Hagood, 24, of Franklin, N.C.

Tallulah Falls to hold third public hearing, vote on millage

TALLULAH FALLS– The Town of Tallulah Falls will hold the third public hearing and vote on a millage rate of 6.620 mills at the regular monthly council meeting Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. at Tallulah Falls Town Hall, 255 Main Street, Tallulah Falls.

MOUNTAIN CITY– Rabun County residents have the opportunity to rock down to the American Legion Post 220 on Electric Avenue in Mountain City for a food distribution and hot meal every Thursday.

Old School Garden holds plant sale

The Old School Garden held its fall plant sale Saturday, Oct. 1. The beautiful weather brought a crowd of people to town for the event. The Old School Garden was decked out for the season with scarecrows, pumpkins, and of course plants.

Attorney General Carr visits Rabun County

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and his wife Joan made a stop in Rabun County on Sept. 27 to meet and greet public officials and constituents in front of the Rabun County Courthouse. He was hosted by the Rabun County Republican Party and local officials. Carr is running for re-election.

Two from Franklin, N.C. die in two-vehicle crash

Two female passengers from Franklin, N.C., died in a two-vehicle crash in Rabun County on Sept. 28 on Georgia 2 east of McWorter Lane just before the South Carolina line. Judith Coolidge Hughes, 81, and Patricia Childers Safko, 91, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash around 3:14 p.m.
