Sky Valley fun event

After a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic, the City of Sky Valley is gearing up for its largest ever Fall Festival on Oct. 15. “We will have events for the whole family throughout the day,” said Mayor Hollie Steil, adding the festival will run from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.

Local voters now can request absentee ballots

Voters can now start requesting absentee ballot applications for the upcoming November 8 election. The Rabun County Board of Elections Office is gearing up for election season as voters can now request absentee ballot applications. Those requested ballots will begin being mailed out Oct. 11. Oct.

Area closings for Labor Day

The Clayton Tribune office will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day. The Rabun County Public Library will be closed Saturday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day.

Dillard native, Air Force veteran turns 95

Dillard native and U.S. Air Force veteran James Carl Davis celebrates his 95th birthday on Sept. 2. “A great man, a great friend, a great brother,” said sibling Jack Davis. Although James Davis currently lives in Fonthill, Ontario, Canada, he has strong ties to Rabun County.

Rabun County woman flown to Gainesville after being struck by car

A 71-year-old Rabun County woman was flown to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by AirLife after being struck by her own car as a pedestrian in a parking lot on Cathey Road in Mountain City Aug. 25.

Large meth lab dismantled in North Ga.

Dustin Tyler Burgess, 34, of Ellijay, Ga., and Uriel C. Mendoza, 30, of Copperhill, Tenn., were arrested and both charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and manufacturing methamphetamine in the presence of children on Aug. 24.

Five arrested on drug and weapons charges in Baldwin

The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO), Georgia Department of Community Supervision, Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Cornelia Police Department, and Baldwin Police Department executed a search warrant at 1283 Shore Street in Baldwin, Ga., on Aug. 22.

Rabun Republicans offer food for thought with low country boil event

CLAYTON– The Rabun County Republican Party Low Country Boil Aug. 22 event had an “incredible” turnout as residents listened to candidates for state and county positions. Rabun County Republican Party President Ed Fickey said more than 175 people attended the event.
