Wildcats roll past Columbia

The Wildcats are finally coming home. And in what could be lousy news for the rest of Region 8-AA, they appear to be gaining steam. Rabun County made itself at home in the unfamiliar confines of the Boyd Buchanan School last Friday night in Chattanooga, Tenn., pasting Columbia Academy, 42-6.

Banks visits as RCHS opens 8-AA schedule

After covering about 900 total miles over four straight games away from home, the Rabun County Wildcats return to Frank Snyder Memorial Stadium Friday night to begin Region 8-AA action.  Ranked third in the state, the ’Cats haven’t played in Tiger since Sept. 18, a loss to Jefferson.

Rabun Gap girls place fifth, Blakeley shares 10th at NCISAA state golf tourney

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee girls golfers shot a cumulative 263 to finish fifth Monday at the North Carolina Independent Athletic Association state tournament in Greensboro, N.C.

Rabun Gap spikers advance at state

The Rabun Gap-Nacoochee volleyball team advanced this week in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association tournament without a spike, dig or ace. The Lady Eagles were scheduled to host Charlotte Latin in a first-round match Tuesday, but received a forfeit instead.

TFS makes big strides at Athens Academy

For coach Scott Neal, the Tallulah Falls School cross-country teams’ performances last Saturday at Athens Academy were among the most significant and successful in program history for the girls and in the last couple of decades for the boys.  Eight boys broke the 20-minute mark.

Bremen trips Lady 'Cats in state softball tournament

Rabun County High was eliminated from the state Class AA softball tournament Monday, falling at Bremen, 8-0 and 13-2 in a best-of-three series. The Lady Wildcats tallied two first-inning runs in the second game, according to coach Angela Shepheard, but couldn’t continue to put hits together.

Christ School tops Eagles with last-second kick

Visiting Rabun Gap-Nacoochee beat Christ School in the final seconds Sept. 25. Last Saturday, the Greenies returned the favor on the Eagles’ turf.  Fernando Machuca-Urbizo’s 31-yard field goal on the last play brought Rabun Gap’s first defeat, 38-35.

Lady Indians get No. 2 region seed for state

The Tallulah Falls School volleyball squad took the No. 2 seed from Region 8-A Private into the state tournament, which was scheduled to start this week.  Already assured a state spot, the Lady Indians dismissed George Walton Academy, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18 in the region semifinals last Thursday.
