Sky Valley proclaimed ‘A Purple Heart City’

The City of Sky Valley has joined Mountain City in passing a proclamation declaring a Purple Heart city to acknowledge the courage of Purple Heart recipients and show appreciation for the sacrifices they have made. Also, to acknowledge them and honor their courage.

Mountain City pinned ‘A Purple Heart City’

MOUNTAIN CITY– The City of Mountain City was the first city in Rabun County to be designated “A Purple Heart City” after council members passed a proclamation last year. The City of Sky Valley city council followed in passing a proclamation last month to declare Sky Valley a Purple Heart City.

North Main Street at Valley Street was closed for a few hours Tuesday when a Chevrolet Blazer crashed into Georgia Power power polls, damaging one and knocking one out completely. The road was closed for approximately four hours as traffic detoured through Ramey Boulevard.

A one-vehicle crash with one occupant knocked out one power pole and damaged another while also causing downtown businesses to lose power for a brief time Tuesday. The crash occurred at approximately 11:27 a.m. Tuesday, Nov.

4-year-old, mother, perish in structure fire

Community members in Rabun and Macon counties are mourning the loss of a mother and 4-year-old daughter who perished in a structure fire in North Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 4. The 911 call came at approximately 1:45 a.m.

The Clayton City Council will be looking a little different at the beginning of the year as voters turned out for the Nov. 7 General Election. Out of 1,358 people registered to vote in the City of Clayton, 29.01 percent, or 394 people, went out to the polls to cast their ballots.

Tallulah Falls Mayor Early wins re-election

The Town of Tallulah Falls had a mayoral and two council member seats up for grabs on Tuesday, Nov. 7 as 43.45 percent of voters, 73 out of 168 registered to vote in Tallulah Falls, turned out to the ballot box. Voters also made decisions about alcohol sales on Sunday.
