Tallulah River Road construction began Monday

Gainesville, Ga. — The U.S. Forest Service will begin road repairs to address damage on Tallulah River Road (Forest System Road 70) on the Chattahoochee National Forest on Aug. 22 causing intermittent road closures, traffic delays and campground closures. Road closures will occur 9 a.m. to noon.

Technicians take part in National 811 Day

Technicians from Georgia Power’s underground location team took time on 8/11 to mark National 811 Day by demonstrating the tools and techniques used to locate and mark live underground lines.

Commissioners to cast vote in special called meeting

The Rabun County Board of Commissioners is set to vote on the FY 2022 millage rate of 9.928 during a special called meeting on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the Rabun County Courthouse, 25 Courthouse Square, Clayton. This rate is an 11.14 percent increase over the rollback millage rate.

Clayton city council approves rollback

CLAYTON– The City of Clayton joins the Rabun County Board of Education in rolling back the 2022 millage rate. Clayton City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the 2022 millage rollback rate of 7.781. The 2021 millage rate was 8.566.

Proposal about storage units on Lake Burton to be discussed

LAKE BURTON– A proposal for boat and self storage units on Lake Burton will be on the table for commissioners at their meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 23. Commissioners will consider for approval a request from Taywood LLC to rezone a tract consisting of 5.

Tallulah Falls expected to increase ad valorem taxes

TALLULAH FALLS– The Town of Tallulah Falls announced the intention to increase the 2022 property taxes it will levy this year by 24.04 percent over the rollback millage rate for Rabun County and 19.02 percent over the rollback millage rate for Habersham County.

Registration open for RCSO Citizens’ Academy

TIGER– Rabun County residents will get to see first-hand what a day in the life is like at the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office during the upcoming Citizens’ Academy. Those who attend will learn about the Office of the Sheriff and how it impacts the lives of citizens and those visiting Rabun County.
