TIGER– Summer is officially over as students at Rabun County Schools were back in the classroom for the first day of the 2023-2023 school year Tuesday, Aug. 8. “Everyone at RCPS was so excited! The much anticipated day went great and we are looking forward to a great school year!

The Great American Art Show & Contest returned to Rabun County Saturday, Aug. 5, in Lakemont. People entered contest categories like Best Rap or Ditty; Best Poem; Best Song; Best Photograph; and Best Painting. The event was sponsored by Rob Callaway and community friends.

Nearly $7,000 has been raised to support the services that F.A.I.T.H. provides by the more than 100 who donned Barbie and Ken attire to watch the new motion picture at the Tiger Drive-In.

Community members came together in prayer Saturday, Aug. 5, for the 14th Annual Prayer Motorcade to Rabun County schools sponsored by Persimmon Church of God with Pastor Stephen Henderson. “There is strength. There is power in our prayers,” Henderson said before leading the group in prayer.

GBI currently investigating shooting in Clayton

Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), and Clayton Police Department are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Aug. 5 following a traffic safety checkpoint in the area of Highway 76 West and Meadow Stream Lane. Lars Anton Rudow, 51, of Watkinsville, Ga.

Horton appointed to Rabun school board

Rabun County Board of Education members voted unanimously to appoint Scott Horton to the board during a called meeting Thursday, Aug. 3. Horton fills the vacant position left by Curt Haban, who resigned from Post 1 on July 22 after serving for 12 years. “I love and respect the school system.
