Gerrells new sheriff in town months earlier than projected

Sheriff-elect Mark Anthony Gerrells was sworn in on Thursday, Oct. 3, to finish the 2021-2024 term of former sheriff Chad Nichols. Probate Judge Carlton H. Jones, III administered the Oath of Office in his courtroom. Gerrells currently is the sole candidate for sheriff who will appear on the Nov.

Fatal Rabun Hwy. 76 crash remains under investigation

An early morning single vehicle crash on Highway 76 East (Ga. 2) in Rabun County Monday, Oct. 7, resulted in one passenger suffering a fatality and the other passenger being injured. The crash was initially dispatched in the area of 4090 Highway 76 East around 6:43 a.m.

Wildfires can significantly impact any community so it’s important to be aware of how to prevent fires from starting and spreading. Having a comprehensive Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) identifies fire risks in the county and provides plans to mitigate the chance of wildfires.
