Bennett sheriff’s office ‘Supervisor of the Year’

Being a team player and constantly learning and improving are important qualities to Lt. Michael Bennett. He brings those characteristics to his role as a leader and was selected as the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office 2021 Supervisor of the Year.

Beck receives ‘Lifesaving Award’

Cpl. Andy Beck believes that being in public safety is all about helping people. And Beck was awarded the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Lifesaving Award “For outstanding performance and heroic life saving actions” for doing just that.

one-vehicle crash results in minor injuries

A one-vehicle crash on Georgia 76 near Georgia 197 Tuesday resulted in minor injuries after a 2012 Mini Cooper, driven by Shannon Coach, 47, of Lexington, S.C., attempted to negotiate a right hand curve while traveling east on Georgia 76.

Clayton swears in newly elected officials

CLAYTON– Clayton candidates for mayor and council members elected Nov. 2 were sworn-in to office Monday by Probate Judge Carlton H. Jones III. The ceremony was held in the courtroom of the Clayton Municipal Complex. Kurt Cannon took the Oath of Office as mayor.

Dillard elected officials sworn-in

Dillard candidates for mayor and council member positions were sworn-in to office Tuesday by Probate Judge Carlton H. Jones III in the Probate Courtroom at the Rabun County Courthouse. The city of Dillard did not hold an election Nov. 2 because all candidates ran unopposed.

Gusts bust 2022 wide open

Heavy storms and extreme wind gusts overnight Sunday brought downed trees, power outages, tree limbs and debris scattered across Rabun County and surrounding counties. Some areas of Rabun County received snowfall. The storm left 2,380 Georgia Power customers without power as of Monday at 9:30 a.m.

Storm brings downed trees, power outages across Rabun County

Heavy storms overnight brought downed trees and power outages across Rabun County and surrounding areas.  As of 9:30 a.m. Monday, there were 2,380 Georgia Power customers without power, according to Chad Nation, Georgia Power spokesman.
