CLAYTON— The North Georgia Mountains were a welcomed site for Father Pedro Poloche, who came to St. Helena Catholic Church about five years ago.

Va. man drowns at Lake Burton

LAKE BURTON— Officials confirmed Sunday a 57-year-old man died in a drowning accident at Lake Burton. The body of Keith Levitt Hill, of Virginia was recovered after emergency personnel were dispatched to 2812 Meeting House Mtn. Rd. following a call that came in at approximately 10:25 a.m.

  The Clayton Tribune CLAYTON—The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Rabun County more than doubled between May 22 and June 25, according to numbers released by the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) Thursday, June 25.

Although the occurrence of rabies among humans has declined noticeably over the years, the disease continues among wild animals. Encounters between wild animals and domestic pets, including some that involve people, sometimes occur in our area.

Buildings could be demolished if not up to code

CLAYTON— Two historic buildings in downtown Clayton might face demolition in the near future, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) learned Tuesday. The authority also discussed the Wilson Alley parking lot deeded to them by the city at Tuesday’s meeting.

County approves budget with no tax increase

CLAYTON— Commissioners unanimously passed a motion to approve the county’s 2021 FY budget of $22,864,738 at their meeting on Tuesday. Commissioner Stephen Arbitter was not present to vote at the meeting. This is less than the previous year when budget expenditures were $23,212,545.
